What Drift Does

Drift is a biofeedback audio application. It connects to a standard Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) heart rate monitor and uses your live heart rate data to dynamically shape audio synthesis parameters in real time. The goal is to guide you into deeper states of calm, focus, or sleep through auditory entrainment.

Data We Collect

Drift does not collect, store, transmit, or monetize any personal data or health data. Period.

Heart rate data is read from your Bluetooth heart rate monitor in real time. This data is processed entirely on-device within the app's memory. It is never written to disk, never sent to a server, and never shared with any third party.
No accounts. Drift does not require you to create an account, provide an email address, or sign in.
No analytics. Drift does not include any analytics SDKs, tracking pixels, or telemetry. We do not know who you are, how often you use the app, or what your heart rate is.
No advertising. Drift contains no ads and no advertising identifiers.

Bluetooth Permissions

Drift requests Bluetooth permissions solely to communicate with your heart rate monitor. On iOS, this is governed by the NSBluetoothAlwaysUsageDescription entitlement. On Android, the app requests BLUETOOTH_SCAN and BLUETOOTH_CONNECT (Android 12+) or ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION (Android 11 and below, required by the OS for BLE scanning). Location data is never read or recorded.

Background Execution

Drift declares background audio and background Bluetooth modes. These are required for the app to continue playing biofeedback audio and receiving heart rate data while your screen is locked during a session. Background execution is only active during an explicit user session and terminates automatically when the heart rate monitor disconnects for more than 5 minutes.

Subscriptions

Drift offers in-app subscriptions managed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. All payment processing is handled entirely by Apple or Google. Drift does not process, see, or store any payment information. Subscription status is verified on-device via RevenueCat, a third-party subscription management SDK. RevenueCat may receive an anonymous app user ID to validate entitlements. See RevenueCat's privacy policy for details.

Data Retention

There is no data to retain. Heart rate values exist only in volatile memory during an active session and are discarded the moment the session ends or the app is closed.

Children's Privacy

Drift is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this policy, the revised version will be posted at this URL with an updated effective date. Because Drift collects no data, changes are unlikely.
